A genuine town for nature lovers

It is one of most beautiful view you will ever see with in the background the Massif du Sancy. Picherand is located at the heart of a wild landscape, between Monts Dore and the Artense plateau. This town, far away from any crowd, is the starting point of various walks. The town welcomes every year all the nature lovers in a beautiful place for families.

Picherande, a green and white town

Picherande is surrounded by a generous nature, with a typical fauna and flora from Auvergne’s plateaus. Lakes, waterfalls, Fontaine Salée valley, rivers and peat bogs are various places where you can enjoy nice walks.

Le lac Chauvet

Located at a height of 1176 meters that is to say 3.858 ft., like many other Auvergne lakes, le lac Chauvet was created in an old volcano (we call that a maar). With its circular form, it is 600m (1.968 ft.) long and 66m (215 ft.) deep. It is approximately 150 000 years old.

Peat bog and Lac de Gayme

Picherande surroundings are very favorable to fens. Discover the natural area where you can find peat bogs. You can discover this place after a one hour walk around the Gayme peat bog. On the same area, the Gayme Lake allows fishing just like Taraffet and Neuffonds rivers that feed the Dordogne River. If you love trout fishing, come and practice this activity.

The Barthe waterfall

The Barthe waterfall  is the perfect place to chill. It is born because of erosion. The stream of Neuffonds becomes a waterfall on the eroded side.

An easy 2 km walk (1.2 miles) to discover this waterfall after only 30 minutes. The start is situated between Picherande and Superbesse, next to the Clamouze Bridge.

During wintertime, picherande is a typical mountain town: calm and genuine with its chalets. Very near the SuperBesse ski resort, Picherande offers several activities such as : cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledge…

Picherande, a snow village

Picherande is the perfect small town, calm and genuine, where you can practice funny snow activities (cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing…) A few kilometers away you can join the SuperBesse resort and practice almost every kind of winter sport activity.

Cross-country skiing

Located on the West Side of the Massif du Sancy, Picherande offer a wonderful nature Nordic sector. The Picherande Chareire sector is a wooded place that opens to a various number of Nordic spaces and join the south and west side. Strating frome Picherand village, one safe route allows you to join Picherande Chareire sector.

Ski touring

Beginning from Picherande and its Fontaine Salée valley, you can practice the ski touring to join skiing and hiking in the same activity. Wearing seal skin, take your time and go on Sancy’s heights to discover wonderful landscapes. Don’t forget to consult weather forecasts before leaving.

Snowshoeing

Two routes are proposed to snowshoeing lovers leaving from Picherande village. If snow is missing you can go on these routs on foot. So, all winter long, go discover the most secret sections of Massif Du Sancy.
