12 villages and a past written in stones
Towns like Lompras, Ourcières, Chavalières, Trossagne, Jonas, L’Arbre, Chananeille, Le Fayet, Lissert, Chastre, La Mont et la Borie are grouped to create Saint-Pierre-Colamine. Lompras is the main market town.
Jonas, a town in a cliff
Mankind has built in rocks into a tuff cliff, stone originating from volcanic eruptions, a wren site: Jonas’ cave.
A long time ago it was a welcoming living place, a real town with its organization, its chapel and its castle. You can also discover its strange rock castle and a roman chapel which frescos are still visible.
Above Saint-Pierre Peak, a chapel
Climb until the summit of Saint-Pierre Peak and you’ll discover a restored chapel built during 9th / 10th century. You can also discover the old church’s vestiges and the old cemetery and its headstones.
The place is peaceful and the view above Sancy Mounts and Puys chain is wonderful. The contemplation can begin!
To go there, go thou the Col de la Feuille thanks to the non-drivable trail during 800 meters (2624 ft.)
