For a sporty start to the year, head for Super-Besse where an elevated adventure trail featuring 45 challenges awaits you at Xtrem Aventure de la Biche. The perfect opportunity to surpass yourself and shed those kilos gained over the Christmas period! And if that doesn’t quench your thirst for adrenalin, you can also ride on the Fantasticable zipwire.
Full schuss or gently does it! Either way, you can kick off the year with a breath of fresh air in the resorts of Sancy! Downhill skiing in Super-Besse, Le Mont-Dore and Chastreix Sancy, or cross-country skiing in one of the largest Nordic areas of the Massif Central: for a sporty holiday, just take your pick!
Randonnée raquettes
Throughout the winter, the Sancy Tourist Office organises a whole programme of guided hikes, on foot or with snowshoes depending on weather conditions. Want your children to learn to be trappers? Or to explore the snow-covered landscape by the light of a headlamp? Then this is for you!

Reap the benefits of thermal water and rid yourself of a dull winter complexion with a feel-good experience at the spa. Let the regenerative spring waters of Le Mont-Dore and La Bourboule give you newfound energy and vitality.

The pastures are in bloom and the summits beckon you! Now is the time for sports in the great outdoors. We have just the thing: Sancy has an incredible variety of MTB trails! From high plateaus to lush green valleys, between lakes and waterfalls, the trails offer a sufficient variety of views and sporting levels to keep you busy for well over a month! With some possible alternatives: downhill MTB and mountain E-biking!
Sancy, a hiker’s heaven! Now is the perfect time of year for walking. No more snow on the summits, no more crowded paths and a massif displaying its most beautiful colours! A must-do? A hike to the top of Puy de Sancy. Occasional walkers may prefer to make the climb and/or the descent by cable car.

The Horizons “Arts-Nature” en Sancy festival, the perfect mix of Art and Nature. For this year’s festival, from June to September, don’t miss the chance to gaze at the superb Sancy landscapes… as you admire the artistic gems exhibited along the way.
Météo des Plages Sancy
To escape from the heat of the valleys, head for Chambon lake, the beach resort of the Massif du Sancy, to relax and unwind on the sand! The Famille Plus-certified facilities with paddling area and play area make this the ideal spot to enjoy a dip and spend quality time with the family. Hermines lake in Super Besse also has a beach with facilities!
Puy de Montchal and Pavin lake
The volcanic crater lake of Pavin is one of the jewels of Sancy. At the site, an exhibition offers insight into the deepest and most mysterious of Auvergne’s lakes. Afterwards you can head into the forest for a walk around its perimeter! As the lovely autumn colours emerge, the forest around Pavin lake takes on hues of red and gold…
Le château de Murol de nuit
Standing tall on its volcanic outcrop, Murol Castle is a must-do for families, offering a fun way to learn about the daily lives of 15th-century lords, through costumed activities, dramatised tours and reconstitutions, all designed to take you back to the days of knights! As a colourful bonus you’ll enjoy one of the best ever views of Sancy in the autumn.
Eating truffade
It’s already getting cold so now is the time to try the recipe for truffade, an icon of Auvergne. Made with cheese, potatoes and charcuterie, this dish oozes with the simplicity and joy of the mountains. A winter delight!
Snow games in the Enclos de Tibou in Super-Besse
6 of the villages of Sancy boast the family-friendly Famille Plus label. In December and January, the resorts organise whole weeks that focus specially on the children! And all winter long, the mountains of Sancy are a kids-friendly destination with fun snow playgrounds, sledging slopes, treasure hunts… and even baby-changing facilities!
